Operations Search: Search Tuning - Product Redirects

This document is created with the purpose to give an explanation of product redirects and how to create them.

A Product Redirect is a search rule created to redirect the user directly to the product page when they input an exact product code. This is done to allow the user to bypass normal search results saving them time as it is assumed that if they input the exact product code they want to end up there anyway.

In the Operations Portal, navigate to the “Search Tuning” screen under Search. Once there, click on the Product Redirects tab to add a new Product Redirect.

Use the “add row” at the bottom of the grid to add a new Product Redirect.

There are currently four kinds of Product Redirects available. You cannot just create a Product Redirect for any code as these are limited to only what is built into the system.

Product Redirect Values

The values to fill in are listed below:

Language Code

  • Should be your default language choice for your site.

Active

  • Can be used to turn your rule on and off. Set to Yes when creating.

Rule Order

  • If you have multiple redirects in place, you can set the order in which the system will try to apply them to codes that are being searched.

Pattern

  • This is your “type” of redirect, or the specific system data field that the system is going to search for a match with the redirect.

Types of Product Redirects

productCode

  • This is the standard product code in the kodaris system and the one normally displayed in the website.

customerProductCode

  • This is available to use if your site allows customers to create their own custom products codes for their favorite products. Doing so creates a cross reference to the main product code and when the customer searches for their own code it will find and redirect to the correct product page. This number will be displayed in the website if the feature is on and the layout is updated to display it.

productUpcCode

  • If you are populating UPC numbers into the product data, you can add this redirect and when a customer searches on a UPC code in the website, it will find the correct product page and redirect the user to it. These codes can be displayed in the website if the layout is updated to display them.

productManufacturerProduct

  • If you are populating manufacturer product codes into your product data, you can add this redirect and when a customer searches on a manufacturer product code in the website, it will find the correct product page and redirect the user to it. These codes can be displayed in the website if the layout is updated to display them.
